Worth Fighting For: Fighting For US
David Yarborough

In a world where individualism often takes center stage, the call to live not by our own way but by Yahweh’s way is both countercultural and transformative. This message, inspired by a recent sermon, invites us to reflect on what it truly means to follow the way of Jesus in every aspect of our lives, including our marriages.

The Way of Jesus: A Life of Love and Honor

Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). This profound statement is not just about the path to eternal life but also a guide for how we live daily. The way of Jesus is characterized by love, honor, and forgiveness, even in the face of a world filled with hate and division. As Christians, we are called to embody these kingdom values, allowing them to shape our decisions, relationships, and interactions.

Yahweh Over My Way

The sermon challenges us to consider whether we are living life our way or Yahweh’s way. This is particularly relevant in areas like finances, relationships, and career choices. When we choose Yahweh’s way, we open ourselves to His blessings and align our lives with His kingdom purposes. This alignment is not just about personal gain but about living as citizens of God’s kingdom, reflecting His love and values to the world.

Marriage: A Covenant of Unity and Commitment

Marriage, as described in Genesis 2, is a divine institution where two become one. It’s a covenant, not a contract, where the focus shifts from “me” to “us.” This covenantal relationship is holy ground, and as such, it often becomes a battleground where the enemy seeks to sow division and discord.

The sermon reminds us that marriage is not always easy. It requires commitment, humility, and a willingness to fight for the relationship. The enemy’s tactics are to isolate, deceive, and harden hearts, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome these challenges. By seeking God’s perspective on our spouses and our marriages, we can see beyond the lies and embrace the truth of God’s redemptive power.

The Kingdom Among Us

The kingdom of God is not just a future hope but a present reality. It is among us, inviting us to live under the rule and reign of our Heavenly Father. This kingdom life is marked by values such as peace, honor, forgiveness, and generosity. As we live out these values, we become a testimony to the world of God’s transformative power.

A Call to Action

Whether you are single, married, divorced, or widowed, the call is the same: to live in the way of Jesus. For those in marriages, this means nurturing the “us” and seeking God’s guidance and healing where needed. For singles, it means embracing the season of life God has you in and living fully for His kingdom.

Let us ask Jesus to show us His way and empower us to live it out. May we experience the fullness of His kingdom here on earth, reflecting His love and grace in all we do.

Conclusion

In a culture that often devalues commitment and covenant, let us be a people who stand firm in the way of Jesus. May our lives and marriages be a testament to the power of living not by our way, but by Yahweh’s way. As we do, we will find that His way leads to life, blessing, and the fulfillment of His kingdom purposes in and through us.
