Walking in the Spirit Part Three
Have you ever picked up your phone only to find it’s in airplane mode? It has power, but no connection. Sometimes our spiritual lives can feel the same way – we have the Holy Spirit within us, but we’re not truly connected. In this practical guide, let’s explore how to shift from operating in the flesh to walking in the Spirit.
The Three R’s of Spiritual Reset
- Recognize When our peace is disturbed, it’s like a spiritual check engine light. Are we feeling angry, fearful, or resentful? These emotions signal we may be slipping into fleshly patterns. The first step is simply acknowledging where we are.
- Repent Once we recognize we’re operating in the flesh, we need to shift to neutral through honest confession. No excuses or rationalizations – just agreeing with God about our sin and asking for forgiveness. As 1 John 1:9 reminds us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.”
- Replace Here’s where many Christians stop – in neutral. But on the uphill journey of faith, neutral isn’t enough. We must actively invite the Holy Spirit to replace our fleshly responses with His fruit. Instead of fear, we receive His peace. Instead of anger, we welcome His love.
The SLOW Method of Hearing God
To walk in the Spirit, try this practical approach:
- Stop and Seek: Pause and acknowledge His presence
- Listen: Be still and attentive to His voice
- Obey: Step out in faith when He prompts
- Watch: Observe what God does in response
Remember: The Holy Spirit is waiting to be depended upon. He’s not just a theological concept but a Divine Person eager to guide, empower, and transform us from the inside out.
Practical Application: Try the TRUST prayer method daily:
- Thank the Spirit for His presence
- Request revelation
- Understand your need for His use
- Seek His strength
- Trust His teaching
The key to walking in the Spirit isn’t striving harder – it’s surrendering more fully. As you go through your day, try this simple prayer: “Holy Spirit, I want to see what you see and feel what you feel.”
Are you ready to shift from airplane mode to full spiritual connection? The Holy Spirit is waiting.
